A homeless man who spent eight days last summer wandering around the Croatan National Forest has been arrested and charged with murder.

Joshua Kenneth Clauson, 20, was arrested on Monday in connection to a body found Sunday in Newport.

Investigators with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office said they found the body of Daniel Andrew Brisson lying on Harris Road, west of Morehead City.

WITN reports that Clauson will remain in jail without bond at least until his next scheduled court date on April 1.

Last summer, Clauson mysteriously disappeared after going on a walk near the Croatan National Forest. After a search spanning several days, Clauson was found alive with severe malnourishment and dehydration.

Authorities did not say whether his disappearance was related to the murder charges.
