A Southern Pines man has been arrested after a fight led to a portion of his ear being bitten off Friday night.

Southern Pines police said officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Murray Hill Road at about 9:30 after receiving a 911 call where screaming could be heard.

Officers who arrived at the scene said they saw a large amount of blood on the floor, walls and furniture of the apartment as well as on several people who were engaged in an altercation.

Police said Ronnell Tydell Wilson, 35, was missing a large portion of his ear, which had been bitten off and was found lying on the floor. A bloody baseball bat was also found inside the apartment.

Wilson demanded that responding officers shoot him before authorities were able to take him into custody without incident, police said.

Wilson, who was treated at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, was charged with two counts of assault on a female. He was being held Saturday at the Moore County Detention Center under $25,000 secured bond.

It was not clear who bit Wilson’s ear off or if that person will face charges.

Authorities said two women inside the apartment were also treated for injuries at First Health Moore Regional Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
