A man known as Heaven was arrested Thursday after authorities said he broke into a church and stole money.

According to the Snow Hill Police Department, 18-year-old Heaven Elliot was arrested and charged with breaking and entering a place of worship and other larceny related charges.

Officers responded to the St. James AME Zion Church on West Harper Street on September 18. When they arrived, they found the church had been forcefully broken into and tithes and offerings were taken from the church.

Elliot was interviewed by police as a suspect at the time of the break-in. Authorities said corroborating evidence from the Pitt County Sheriff's Office indicated Elliot was the one responsible for the break-in.

Elliot is currently at the Greene County Detention Center under $40,000 bond.
