Goldsboro police arrested a man after someone called 911 and said a man had stolen his cell phone and might be armed. When police arrived at the location, the suspect jumped from a second-floor window trying to escape and then assaulted a police officer.

Officers arrested Taheim Leach around 9 p.m. Tuesday at West Oak Street near West Vanderbilt Circle.

Leach, 22, of Goldsboro, is charged with assault on a government official and resisting a public officer.

Police said Leach jumped from the second floor window while they knocked on the door. Leach and the officer struggled before other officers came to help.

Officers seized a gun from Leach.

Authorities are holding Leach in the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond. He had a first court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.

Goldsboro police said Leach had a warrant out for his arrest for interfering with an electronic monitoring device, assault by pointing a gun and breaking and entering to terrorize or injure.

Also, police said there were orders for Leach's arrest for:

  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • False bomb report to a public building
