Authorities reopened part of North McDowell Street Wednesday afternoon after it was closed for much of the day because of a water main break that forced morning commuters to find an alternate route.

The road reopened around 3:45 p.m. after Raleigh police officers closed the stretch of the road between Edenton and Jones streets.

The department stationed officers on the road to redirect morning commuters.
