Season Horne was shot in the face Tuesday when she pulled over to help a woman involved in a car crash in Cumberland County.

WRAL News on Friday spoke to family members and friends of Horne, who is married and has a 12-year-old son.

Allie Gipson, a family friend, said it's no surprise Horne tried to help when she saw a car crash in front of her.

"That would always be Season's nature," Gipson said. "It wouldn't matter who you where, what kind of person you were. The woman who did this ... she didn't have to do that."

Horne was transferred to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, where she awaits multiple surgeries. Family members said she is on the road to recovery but has a long journey ahead.

Horne's loved ones are grateful the bullet didn't hit her brain.
