Why e-scooters will stay at NCSU

Don't be surprised if you still see Lime scooters here and there around Raleigh -- as 200 will remain on campus at North Carolina State University.

The scooters are part of a campus ride share program separate from the city.

In March, Bird and Lime scooters announced they would cease operations in Raleigh because of "burdensome regulations" imposed by City Hall.

Users who grab Lime scooters on campus are encouraged to only ride them on campus — but there is nothing stopping riders from taking them further.

Your paid ride continues as long as the scooter is charged, officials say, and it's up to Lime to retrieve scooters that leave campus and bring them back if the user does not.

Transportation leaders at N.C. State said it's still early in the process, and they're hoping to work closely with Lime and city leaders to keep scooters on campus.

They also said they are open to making adjustments to their program or creating more boundaries as needed.
