The N.C. Museum of Art has teamed up with Liberation Station, a local mobile children's pop-up bookstore that highlights stores that feature Black voices, for a year of virtual storytelling and discussions about children's books and resources.

Just a fraction of the children's books published today feature multicultural. Founder Victoria Scott-Miller's goal is to ensure that all children, including African American kids, can see themselves in the books they read. She does that by highlighting books that feature African American characters. Scott-Miller, a mom of two, already has Black Lit Libraries at Duke Gardens, Durham Hotel and Nolia Family + Coffee.

The partnership begins today with Scott-Miller reading selections from "Words with Wings: A Treasury of African-American Poetry and Art" by Belinda Rochelle. The video also features works of art within the museum.

The reading is part of the art museum's NCMA at Home series, which offers virtual activities that explore works within the museum.
