A high school football game was cut short Friday night after a laser beam interrupted the game.

"The game was suspended when one of the officials on the field saw what they thought was a laser-pointer-style light on the field," said Graham Police Department Captain Daniel Sisk. "That official was the only one who saw the light."

He said the source of the light was never determined, and there are currently no suspects.

The Alamance-Burlington School System posted on Facebook about the incident.

"The football game between Graham High School and Bartlett Yancey was called off in the second quarter tonight due to safety concerns," the district said Friday on Facebook. "The decision was made to stop play after the referee observed a laser beam pointed onto the field."

Everyone was able to exit the stadium safely, the district said.

The Graham Police Department is investigating this incident.

According to N.C. General Statute 14-34.8, it is unlawful to intentionally point a laser device at someone's head or face while the device is emitting a laser beam.
