Juvenile petitions sought after high-speed chase sends four juveniles to the hospital, Roanoke Rapids police says

Juvenile petitions are being sought Sunday for an early morning car chase Saturday in Halifax County.

According to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, An officer was patrolling the area of Chockoyotte Street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The officer noticed a grey Nissan traveling down the road about the posted speed limit. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle on Julian R Allsbrook Highway, the driver took off and turned onto I-95 South.

The pursuit exceeded over 100 mph. During the pursuit, the driver attempted to shake the officer by making an abrupt exit and crashed after driving through a stoplight at the intersection of NC Highway 125.

The officer detained five juvenile passengers in the car, but the driver escaped on foot. EMS took four of the passengers to ECU Health North for injuries and transferred one person to ECU Hospital for a broken leg.

Their statuses are unknown at this time.

Police officers, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol searched for the driver.

According to Roanoke Rapids police, an officer located the driver, a juvenile, on Three Bridges Road near Carolina Rest Home Road.

After being denied a secured custody order, police released the juveniles to their parents.

Roanoke Rapids police said petitions for felony flee to elude are forthcoming for the driver.
