Jeni's ice cream opening Raleigh location in Village District with free scoops

Jeni's ice cream announced it will open its new Village District location Monday with free ice cream scoops of any flavor.

The first Raleigh location will be scooping free ice cream on June 5 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Swag bags will also be handed out to the first people in line.

Jeni's is known for unusual but creative ice cream flavors, like Texas chocolate sheet cake, Brambleberry crisp, everything bagel, powdered jelly donut, cream puff ice cream and goat cheese with cherries.

Seasonal flavors offered at the Raleigh scoop shop will include strawberry buttermilk, sweet cream biscuits with peach jam and lemon and blueberries parfait.

Jeni's website describes the ice cream, which is available in some local Harris Teeter stores, as "impossibly smooth." People can also order pints to be shipped to their door in a box packed with dry ice.

There are two other locations in North Carolina -- at 908 W. Main St. in Durham and in Charlotte.
