Meet WRAL at IBMA Bluegrass Live! this weekend

The free, two-day IBMA Bluegrass Live! Festival is underway in downtown Raleigh, but awards were announced Thursday night.

The 2023 IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards were held Sept. 28 at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts.

The ceremony held in Raleigh is part of an entire week of bluegrass events, conferences and workshops, ending with the festival on Friday and Saturday.

WRAL is a proud sponsor, and anchors, meteorologists and reporters will be available to meet the public both days.

2023 IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards

Winners from Thursday's ceremony include:

  • Entertainer of the year: Billy Strings
  • Vocal group of the year: Authentic Unlimited
  • Instrumental group of the year: The Travelin' McCourys
  • Song of the year: "Crooked Tree" by Mary Tuttle & Golden Highway, written by Mary Tuttle and Melody Walker
  • Album of the year: Crooked Tree by Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway
  • Gospel recording of the year: “The Scarlet Red Lines” by Larry Sparks
  • Instrumental recording of the year: “Kissimmee Kid” by Jason Carter
  • New artist of the year: Authentic Unlimited
  • Collaborative recording of the year: “Alberta Bound”
  • Female vocalist of the year: Molly Tuttle
  • Male vocalist of the year: Greg Blake
  • Banjo player of the year: Kristin Scott Benson
  • Bass player of the year: Vickie Vaughn
  • Resophonic guitar player of the year: Justin Moses
  • Fiddle player of the year: Jason Carter
  • Guitar player of the year: Trey Hensley
  • Mandolin player of the year: Sierra Hull

Awards were voted on by members of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), a nonprofit. A livestream of the show is available on IBMA's Facebook page.
