I-440 ramp closed in Raleigh

Improvements to Interstate 440 closed a major connector in Raleigh on Monday for up to two years, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The ramp from I-440 West to eastbound Wade Avenue closed late Monday. According to the DOT, 1,800 vehicles use the ramp on an average day.

During the closure, a temporary ramp will be constructed from eastbound Wade Avenue to I-440 West before construction of the final alignment wraps up late 2021.

A signed detour will lead drivers past Wade Avenue to the Hillsborough Street exit, so they can get back on eastbound I-440 and take that back to get on eastbound Wade Avenue.

A map provided by the DOT shows the ramp that will be closed and the detour that will be in place.

Two other ramps, I-440 West to eastbound Western Boulevard and I-440 West to Melbourne Road, closed at midnight Sunday so crews could install concrete barriers along the side of each. But both ramps reopened by Monday morning.

A map provided by the DOT shows the ramp that will be closed and the detour that will be in place.
