First responders from throughout Wake County received a free "Chick-Fil-A" chicken biscuit as part of a special appreciation event for their work to serve and protect their communities.

The gathering at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh recognized the life savers who serve of the Wake County community.  It includes Wake County Emergency Medical Services, Wake County Sheriff's Office, NC Highway Patrol, Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center, the City of Raleigh Fire Dept., the city of Raleigh Police Dept., Wake Co. Emergency Management and State Capitol Police.

Among those honored at the 2023 Raleigh Chamber First Responders Breakfast

Wake County Deputy Maria Fuentes. Last May, her K9 partner named "Santos" was accidentally killed by gunfire while tracking a suspect. Santos death was tragic, especially for Fuentes who was her K9 partner even when he was off-duty.

State Trooper Samuel Adams was honored for answering the call when an elderly woman had a cardiac arrest in May 2023. Adams used his AED and rendered CPR for 5 straight minutes before EMS arrived on the scene and took over. Adams' efforts saved the woman's life.

On Oct. 13, 2023, at the Hedingham subdivision, there was an active shooter. Despite the high call volume and the chaos that ensued, the Wake County Emergency Communications team stepped up to the challenge. They showcased exceptional professionalism and remained composed under pressure.

WRAL News anchor Dan Haggerty was emcee of the event. He told the crowd, "Each of us have been impacted by the heroic efforts of the men and women serving as first responders in one way or another."

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the 200 Club of Wake County. The non-profit provides financial help for the spouses and children of local first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The event was presented by CPI Security.
