How to prepare your car for freezing temperatures

Freezing temperatures could mean problems for you car.

When the temperature drops like this, you may think about warming up your car before you leave for work – or even checking your tire pressure. But we checked in with the folks at Murray’s Tire and Audio Service in Raleigh.

The experts said you should test your battery and radiator, and do maintenance early to avoid a hefty price tag later.

“If anything freezes in here, it can ruin everything in this car. You don’t want to have to buy a new motor," said Chuckie Barbour, Murray’s Tire and Audio Service. "You don’t wanna have to buy a new radiator, because it’s going to cost you, especially if you come to a shop. It’s going to get pricey."

Another thing you may not think about – icy fuel lines. Water moisture from condensation in a fuel line can cause some serious problems and make it harder to start your car.

One way to avoid this is by keeping your gas tank at least half full.
