Fuel costs lead to issues for campers

From the water to land, campgrounds are a popular destination 4th of July weekend.

For those enjoying their RV this July 4th, getting to the fun is getting more expensive than in years past with fuel prices like they are now.

Scott Brozovich does it in style with his large RV, essentially a full home on wheels.

He pulled the beast from California to a campground at Jordan Lake.

“We will actually go coast to coast on this trip,” said Brozovich.

With fuel prices where they are now, every mile costs more money.

Brozovich estimated the diesel costs for his truck are 40 percent higher compared to previous years on the road.

“I have done as much as $225 in one fill-up," Brozovich. “It was an unanticipated problem. Something we did not budget for.”

Johnny Strickland knows his pain.

“I filled up yesterday. $5.75 a gallon,” said Strickland.

When he looked at his 14,000 pound RV and the prices at the pump, he considered whether it was worth getting out here this summer.

But in the end, the answer was easy.

"We just decided we were going to do it regardless,” said Strickland

Despite the increased costs, campsites around Jordan Lake were full.

As they see it - what’s the point of having these big toys, if you can’t play with them?
