Hillsborough pizza joint is hidden gem
It was our first time hanging out in Hillsborough in over a year, and we went directly to the Riverwalk. The weather was decent, but windiness made it feel much colder. Add to that bountiful shade from an abundance of trees, lingering sinus problems, and the result was us going back to our car! We only made it about a quarter of a mile into the walk.
Heading somewhere to dine inside sounded like a much better idea.
Radius Pizzeria & Pub, in the heart of Hillsborough at 112 N. Churton St., was right on time for lunch. There were customers, but it wasn't crowded, and we were seated immediately. Instead of individual meals, we chose something to share and ordered from their specials menu. The pizza descriptions made our mouths water and they're baked in a wood-fired brick oven.
The ''Feelin' Gouda'' pizza with herb oil, spinach, gouda, ham, oven-roasted tomato, and artichoke was our pick. It's also topped with a drizzle of pesto cream and red pepper flakes. This is very tasty but a tad spicy due to the red pepper. We ate it just fine but needed our drinks a few times. Keep that in mind if it's an item you'd like to try.
In addition to gourmet pizzas, there are appetizers, salads, wraps, pasta dishes, seafood, desserts, and more. It all sounds so good! Regular drinks include items like sweet tea, sodas, chocolate milk, juices, Shirley Temples, sparkling water and coffee.
A full bar is also available with everything from non-alcoholic cocktails, to beer, wine, and liquors.
This was my family's first visit, but it's a stop I definitely recommend adding to your list. The service was great, and I especially enjoyed the calm, family-friendly atmosphere. You can choose indoor or patio dining. And if you'd prefer to order online, you can do that, too via their website.
With Radius being right downtown, there are many other restaurants in the area. A few bakeries are nearby as well if you're looking to explore a different aspect of the food scene. Hillsborough gives you many options to choose from!
