Halifax County gas leak forces people to evacuate homes, traffic blocked off near US 301
A backhoe ruptured a large gas line on Monday morning along U.S. 301, Halifax County Economic Development Commission Board of Directors Chairman Ronnie Locke.
A Monday morning gas leak has caused law enforcement to evacuate people in their homes along U.S. 301, Halifax County Economic Development Commission Board of Directors Chairman Ronnie Locke said.
A backhoe ruptured a large gas line around 10:30 a.m. Monday, Locke said.
The area is blocked off to traffic. Law enforcement evacuated the homes in a one-block radius around the leak.
County leaders don't expect the leak to be resolved until 4:30 p.m. Piedmont Natural Gas Co. runs the gas line.
Halifax County leaders are asking people to stay away from the area.
