Group of men randomly assaulted in Gastonia by man wielding machete on bicycle

Tuesday's attack is the second machete attack reported in the greater Charlotte area this week.

Three men were randomly assaulted while doing work in Gastonia on Tuesday morning by a man wielding a machete on a bicycle, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

Police arrived to the 400 block of Redding Street and found three men suffering from cuts. The men told police they didn't know the attacker and didn't know why they were assaulted.

The three men were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Based off a description of the suspect, police were able to find the suspected attacker near North Ryhne Street and Davidson Avenue. The man was found with a machete.

According to WCNC, Decarlos Freshley, 36, was arrested and was charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to seriously injured. He was being held without bond.

This is the second machete attack to happen in the greater Charlotte area within the past couple days, WCNC reports.

On Friday, a fight broke out at a home in Iredell County on Big Forest Drive. One person was assaulted with a machete and then forced to sit on the floor at knife point, according to deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said that the victim and attacker knew each other. The man wielding the machete stole items from the victim's home then fled from the home in a vehicle.

Antonio Noda Delgado was arrested and charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, four counts of felon second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
