An exciting baseball game was the scene Saturday for the grand opening of Durham Bulls Miracle League Field around the corner from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

"I feel like a kid on Christmas. I'm so excited!" said Andrew Hartman. "I've just grown up watching and playing baseball my entire life."

The Miracle League of the Triangle is a nationwide baseball league for kids and adults with special needs.

Benjy Capps, the Executive director of the Miracle League of the Triangle, expresses why this event is so important.

"Our league is based on our special needs population here in the triangle," said Capps. "We allow them to play a game of baseball. Which they love and they want to come out and be a teammate."

Many, like Hartman, Knights Infielder, had patiently waited for this event since 2017 when the partnership with the bulls, miracle league and capitol broadcasting was announced.

"To know we finally get to open our field, it's a great feeling," said Hartman.

Cody Delia, another player, says he loves the game of baseball and this event means a lot.

"I grew up a huge baseball fan, so I've always wanted to play, so to get a chance to play means a lot," said Delia. "I had a pretty good feeling I would be the first one to hit it out of the stadium; I just did not think it would be today."

The Miracle League of the Triangle has three locations, Raleigh, Cary and now in Durham on Morehead Avenue.
