GoRaleigh riders won't have to pay for the cost of a ride until next year.

The Raleigh City Council voted to suspend GoRaleigh fares through June 30, 2024.

"[The] Raleigh City Council approved the proposed budget [Monday], which included no fare revenue for bus services for [fiscal year 2024]," a Raleigh spokesperson wrote in an email to WRAL News.

GoTriangle routes will also remain free through June 30, 2024.

GoDurham's website states that it is anticipated that fares will also remain free through June 2024.

The Raleigh Town Council is scheduled to vote on the fiscal year 2024 budget on June 22. If the budget is approved as is, GoCary will remain free through June 30, 20224.

All four transit systems – GoCary, GoDurham, GoRaleigh and GoTriangle – were initially set to suspend bus fares through June 30, 2023.

The transit agencies suspended fares in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The agencies made the decision to ease financial burdens for the frontline workers and community members who were relying on transit to get to critical jobs or food and health care.
