Goodnights Comedy Club opens new, permanent location
Goodnights Comedy Club opened its new, permanent location Wednesday.
The venue's new location is 401 Woodburn Road in Raleigh's Village District.
“We’re thrilled to welcome guests into Goodnights’ permanent new home," Goodnights owner Brad Grossman said in a news release. "After months of hosting guests in our temporary location, we’re ready to unveil our new space, which is packed with amenities to further enhance the comedy club experience.
"Goodnights is a Raleigh institution and we’re proud to continue to honor our roots and legacy, while also enhancing the overall atmosphere.”
The new venue is set to open to the public starting with a live album recording of Helen Widly on Wednesday.
From Thursday through Saturday, critically-acclaimed comedian Anthony Jeselnik is set to headline the main showroom. On Friday and Saturday, Kelsey Cook is scheduled to perform in the intimate Room 861, a nod to the club's original location.
Goodnights' new location is adjacent to the former Raleigh Underground space. Now vacant, Raleigh Underground used to be home to many music venues, nightclubs and shops.
Since August 2022, Goodnights has operated out of its temporary location at 511 Woodburn Road, the former home of K&W Cafeteria. That same month, a construction crew tore down the original Goodnights location at 861 West Morgan St.
July 31 marked the last Goodnights show at the West Morgan Street location.
Goodnights, formerly known as Charlie Goodnights, opened in 1983 at 861 W. Morgan St. It has hosted nationally known comedians throughout the years, including Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres. The club was purchased in 2013 by Marc Grossman, who owns Helium Comedy Clubs.
