Goldsboro native advances to knockout rounds of 'The Voice'

A Goldboro native is making himself heard on the NBC singing competition, “The Voice.”

Tae Lewis advanced to the competition’s knockout stage after surviving the battle round on Monday night.

Lewis said he is proud to represent Goldsboro on a national stage.

“There’s so much talent that’s not heard in Goldsboro,” he said. “This is not only for me but for other artists [and] singers in Goldsboro who feel like they can’t do this.”

Lewis said he was a little nervous during his blind audition, despite being on camera or stage because he’s grown up around the stage his entire life.

“I’m a YouTuber, so I’m on camera all the time, but it’s a bigger platform now. Once I got through the first verse and John [Legend] turned his chair, it was like, ‘Okay, now I can relax and perform how I want to perform,’” he explained.

The Knockout rounds start on Monday.
