The Holly Springs Salamanders, part of the collegiate summer league that was canceled this summer because of the pandemic, is working to give back.

The team is hosting a food drive for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Ting Park park parking lot, 1151 N. Main St., Holly Springs.

The Holly Springs Food Cupboard shared a list of items that they are most in need of:

  • Jelly
  • Broth
  • Sides (such as instant potatoes, stuffing, Hamburger Helper, Rice-a-Roni, Suddenly Salad)
  • Small pop-up cans of meat such as tuna or Vienna sausages
  • Soup
  • Canned meat
  • Crackers
  • Dried beans in one or two pound bags
  • Peanut butter
  • Fruit

If you've got some extra items in your own cupboards or can head to the store, this is a great opportunity to gather up some food and, in turn, teach your kids about how great it feels to give back.

The Holly Springs Food Cupboard provides supplemental food assistance to those in need. It also collects food donations weekly. More information is on its website.
