Anastasia Hall was one of several people taken to the hospital Sunday morning after a destructive fire in Raleigh.

The 15-year-old’s family is also dealing with the grief of losing their dog and most of their belongings in the fire. Since then, friends have stepped up, creating a GoFundMe page to get donations for the family.

Amber Crean’s daughter Zoey Marion is best friends with Anastasia. After speaking with her mother, Summer Hall, Crean said she felt compelled to help.

“[Summer Hall] explained me to that they lost everything in the fire," Crean said. "I just felt like while she was in the hospital with Anastasia, it would be impossible to get the things you need to start a home again.”

Zoey is a little person, and Crean said Anastasia welcomed her with open arms.

“You send your kid off to school, hoping that they make friends when they’re different," Crean said. "Anastasia was one of her first friends. They were in choir together.”

That’s why Crean said Zoey was so shocked to hear the news, but it also encouraged her daughter to get involved.

“[Zoey] is also the type that’s very motivated and gung-ho to do something about a situation. She has also involved many of their friends.”

Anastasia is in the UNC Burn unit, according to family members, fighting severe burns. She is in critical condition.

“You never expect this to happen to someone that you care about, especially a kid,” Crean said.

As of Monday evening, the GoFundMe raised more than $10,000.
