Local gas prices set to rise following oil production cuts

A surprise cut in oil production could soon mean higher prices at the gas pump, and a setback in the fight against inflation.

In an update at 3 a.m., AAA reported an average of $3.36 for gas in North Carolina.

That's about the same as yesterday but up 5 cents from this time last week.

Experts think the upward trend will continue.

Prices were $3.95 a gallon last year, and gas experts say we will feel that pinch again.

Prices aren’t expected to be as high as last year, according to Gas Buddy Expert Patrick de Haan, but we could see gas in Raleigh go up by 20 cents. While OPEC's decision comes as a surprise to many experts, de Haan said OPEC is doing this because they predict lower demand this year.
