Huge flame could be visible in Garner Wednesday

Some routine maintenance for a gas company will provide an impressive visual for Garner residents on Wednesday.

Piedmont Natural Gas will use a flare stack to produce a tall flame that shoots up into the air, in case the weather wasn't hot enough for you.

The work is part of some regular pipeline maintenance and will happen near 12022 Cleveland Road, close to Interstate 40, meaning drivers passing by could see the huge fire.

The operation will include a flare stack, a big vertical pipe, which could make a lot of noise in producing the huge flame.

People in the area also may notice a whistling sound or the smell of natural gas. PNG representatives said there's no need for concern or to call 911.
