Friends have identified the man who died along Western Boulevard in Raleigh on Monday, remembering him as having a passion for cars.

According to Raleigh police, officers responded to the intersection of Western Boulevard and Varsity Drive after 5 p.m. for a minor crash. When they arrived, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man, identified by his friends as Anthony Day, 23, died at the scene. Friends told WRAL News Day graduated from Heritage High School in Wake Forest and was a member of an anime car meetup group called Itasha. Day's car, involved in the crash, was decorated with images of characters from anime or video games. He also worked as a manager at the Cook Out on Western Boulevard.

On Tuesday a roadside memorial of cards, candles and flowers was placed near the site where Day died. Flowers were also placed in front of the Cook Out sign where he worked.

A coworker told WRAL News Day worked as a manager at the Cook Out on Western Boulevard for two years. The same coworker said Day lost his mother last year and lived in Knightdale with his father.
