Admission to the Wright Brothers National Memorial will be free on eight days this year.

Orville and Wilbur Wright opened the skies to controlled powered flight on Dec. 17, 1903, when their plane took off on a 12-second flight on the dunes of North Carolina's coast. The memorial features the spot where their first flights took place, the sand dune where they did most of their gliding and the place they lived while working on the coast.

Admission is normally $10 for those ages 16 years and older. Those under 16 are admitted free.
