A retired Rocky Mount police officer was arrested and charged with selling cocaine, according to the Nash County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Keith Stone told WRAL News Linc Oshea Brooks was arrested Wednesday by deputies who stopped him on Interstate 95 for traffic violations.

Due to "reasonable suspicion of criminal activity," deputies used a K9 to search Brooks' 2020 GMC Denali.

According to the sheriff's office, the K9 found 198 grams of cocaine hidden inside the car's center console. According to deputies, Brooks resisted arrest and was taken into custody. He did not assault deputies, but he didn't follow orders, Stone said.

The city of Rocky Mount said Brooks retired from the police department in 2006 as a senior police officer.

He served in the Rocky Mount Police Department for nearly a decade.

When WRAL News requested comment on Brooks' arrest, the city had no comment.

Stone told WRAL News the arrest stemmed from an investigation dating back to 2016 and called Brooks' actions "sickening."

“To be able to put this stuff, which is killing Americans, jeopardizing law enforcement officers, making this world unsafe – and for him to put this in the community is very disheartening," Stone said.
