A former soldier who served at Fort Liberty has been arrested and charged Wednesday for engaging in child pornography offenses.

Sean Paul Holt, 28, of Reno, Nevada, has been sentenced to 8 years for both receiving and possessing child pornography, also known as child sexual abuse material.

Holt pleaded guilty on Aug. 30 to one count of receiving child pornography and as part of his sentence, he is required to register as a sex offender.

According to court documents, Holt was an active-duty member of the Army stationed at Ft. Liberty (formerly known as Ft. Bragg) when the offense took place.

In April 2020, Holt obtained child sexual abuse material from a Tor site dedicated to the sale of such content featuring young boys.

Investigators identified Holt's accounts and gathered evidence that Holt's phone was one of several devices using the relevant IP address during the transaction.

In the spring of 2021, investigators received multiple Cybertips about suspected child sexual abuse material in a Tumblr account linked to an email address previously associated with Holt.

On May 19, 2021, investigators executed a federal search warrant at Holt's home, collecting multiple electronic devices.

A forensic examination uncovered hundreds of files of child sexual abuse material, including content featuring minors, on Holt's phone.
