After a two-year hiatus, transatlantic service is expected to return to Raleigh-Durham International Airport in the coming months.

A release from RDU said that American Airlines is resuming its nonstop flight to London in April and over the summer, Delta Air Lines will restart its nonstop connection to Paris.

In May, Icelandair will launch its debut service to Reykjavik, a tourist destination that also serves as a midway point between North America and Europe.

A report the surfaced on Thursday showed passenger traffic through RDU increased 80% in 2021 compared to 2020, thanks in part to strong passenger numbers between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, a spokesperson for the airport told WRAL TechWire. Prior to the onset of the global pandemic, the airport experienced its highest level of passenger traffic in 2019, and according to Stephanie Hawco, the director of media relations for the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, about half of all passenger traffic came from business travel.
