Fire destroys home in Durham, dog rescued

No one was home at the time of the fire, but fire crews rescued one dog from the property.

A fire Saturday in Durham burned a single-family home.

According to the Durham Fire Department, firefighters responded to a structure fire on the 200 block of Ruby Ridge Road just before 3 p.m.

When firefighters arrived to the home, they could see smoke and flames from the roof and back of the home.

No one was home at the time, but firefighters did confirm one dog was rescued from the home and treated by Durham County EMS for minor smoke inhalation.

Authorities said the home sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Two adults were displaced and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
