"Find a way:" the signature motto for Extra Effort Award Winner Casagrande of Bunn HS

His dedication and devotion to Bunn High School: boundless. Heck, Scott Casagrande became an amateur landscaper for his alma mater.

"We had a big water leak on the practice field this summer, during Covid," explains Bunn High School head football coach Dale Murphy. "I don't know how many hundreds of gallons of water got released on the practice field, but he lives right down the road, I called him and I said, 'can we get your help?' And he took pride in that."

If it's not chopping down trees or installing new water lines, it's re-painting the weight room which the kid nicknamed "Quadzilla" holds a school record, a 295 pound clean, inside.

"I love being able to take care of this facility that I've been blessed to play on," nods Scott Casagrande, our first new Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award Winner since Mar. 2020.

Maybe that's why the two-sport chief commands so much respect on the fields of play. In addition, to football he also throws the shot and discus for track-and-field.

"Everybody looks up to him because they've seen all the work he's put in," Murphy says.

That respect extends to the classroom. Scott is an owner of a 4.17 GPA, a 28 ACT score, while serving as a member of the BETA Club.

"He's academically and intellectually gifted," gushes Patrick Reynell, an English teacher at Bunn High School.

However, it's Casagrande's compassion and empathy that stands out above all.

"He wants other people to step up first, he doesn't want to control the room, he doesn't want to dominate," Reynell explains. "He wants to see other people thriving."

Despite a torn meniscus and grade 3 ACL disruption stealing his final football foray, Scott plans to play somewhere in college. Only fitting for a young man whose signature motto, "find a way," is literally painted on-campus.

"I want to be remembered as the guy who came here and inspired the next generation to become as great as they can be," Casagrande says.

For always "finding a way," we're proud to call Scott Casagrande for the first time in 13 months, a winner, of the Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award.
