For the fourth time in its four-year history, there's a different boys cross country team atop the final HighSchoolOT boys cross country rankings.

HSOT uses championship times across all classifications and associations and combines them into one big state meet to calculate the final rankings.

Marvin Ridge, the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state champion, had enough depth to beat everyone else in the state, hence the Mavericks' first time as the No. 1 team.

Previous final rankings

In total, 16 teams in the preseason top 25 also made it in the final 25, with No. 8 Jesse Carson the highest of those who began the year unranked. Marvin Ridge was second in the preseason rankings.

Christ School, last year's No. 1 team, was ninth this year.

N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 4A champ Providence Day was seventh while 3A champ Croatan was second and 2A champ Brevard was 14th. 1A champ Lejeune, NCISAA 3A champ Forsyth Country Day, NCISAA 2A champ Davidson Day and NCISAA 1A champ Oakwood School were unranked.

Ardrey Kell, Chapel Hill, Hoggard, T.C. Roberson, and Weddington are the only schools to finish in the top 25 in boys cross country rankings for all four years of the annual final rankings.

The all-state team will be released next week.
