Federal grant provides rural areas in NC money for water and sewer improvements

As part of a new federal grant, rural areas of the state are getting money for much needed improvements in the sewer and water systems.

Governor Cooper visited the town of Pinetops in Edgecombe County, to announce the new infrastructure funding.

The grant will add $3.6 billion as a result of the bipartisan infrastructure plan approved by the last Congress.

"So with these first rounds that we've been able to do that we're celebrating these two projects here today, we've been able to invest in water infrastructure in 86 counties," said Cooper.

Cooper said the current project in Pinetops is funded by nearly $8 million to replace water lines.

Currently, those leaking lines have lost up to 25% of the town's water per year.
