Fayetteville State University officer facing charges after police say he shot his wife

A Fayetteville State University police officer was in custody Thursday after he was accused of shooting his wife during a domestic dispute, police said.

Corey Manning, 36, of Lumberton, is facing charges after his wife called 911 and was heard screaming about a shooting while she was in the parking lot of a Raeford McDonald's restaurant around 7 a.m., police Chief Marc Godwin said during a press conference.

Police arrived at the restaurant and arrested Manning, who tried to run from the scene, authorities said.

Godwin said they confiscated a gun at the scene but it was not Manning's service weapon.

His wife, Latisha Manning, age unavailable, was rushed for treatment to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said. Her injuries were serious but not believed to be life threatening, police said.

Investigators said the man and woman were in two separate cars traveling on the 401 Bypass in Raeford when her vehicle was struck by his as it was driving through a Waffle House parking lot. Her vehicle then continued on to a nearby McDonald's parking lot, where his vehicle rammed her's again, police said.

Police said Manning got out of his car and discharged two bullets into the woman's car, striking her in the leg/hip area, police said.

It was not clear what prompted the dispute, police said.

Official charges against the officer have not been announced.
