Fayetteville's J. Cole wins Grammy Award for Best Rap Song
Fayetteville’s J. Cole and 21 Savage won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Rap Song on Sunday night at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
The Fayetteville Observer reports “a lot,” a track they collaborated on that was released on 21 Savage’s album “i am > i was,” beat out songs by YBN Cordae (“Bad Idea”), Rick Ross (“Gold Roses”), the late Nipsey Hussle (“Racks in the Middle”), and DaBaby (“Suge”) in the Best Rap Song category.
The Grammy is Cole’s first. He’s been nominated 11 times, including five nominations this year.
Cole’s “Middle Child” was also in the running for Best Rap Song, and he was also nominated in the same category as a featured artist along with J.I.D., Bas, EARTHGANG and Young Nudy on the Dreamville song “Down Bad.”
Cole received his first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist at the 54th Grammy Awards in 2012.
Cole’s other Grammy nominations include Best Rap/Sung Performance in 2014 for “Power Trip,” Best Rap Album in 2016 for “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” Best Rap Performance for “Apparently” in 2016 and Best R&B Performance in “Planez” in 2016.
