A man from Fayetteville was shot and killed Saturday in a hunting accident, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office confirms.

According to the Northampton County Sheriff's Office, Chase Colas was killed in a hunting accident near the town of Seaboard

Friends of Colas said he made his mark on Fayetteville, despite not growing up in Fayetteville.

"He was always giving of himself, his time, his resources and his skills for the people that need it," Paul Holt said. "Genuinely one of the sweetest men I've ever known."

North Carolina Wildlife will now lead the investigation.

Friends of Colas have set up a GoFundMe to help his family.

"We can't bring Chase back, but what we can do is make sure some of the other burdens are alleviated of the family," Holt said.
