From basketball star to acting, Fayetteville native Sheldon Bailey shines bright in Hollywood

From Nickelodeon to Showtime, model, actor, producer, and entertainer Sheldon Bailey is an exceptional example that with hard work, passion and dedication, dreams do come true.

This 6-foot-6-inch Fayetteville native has put his imprint in Hollywood by appearing in numerous movies and television shows, including Castle, NCIS, The Mindy Project, The Nick Kroll Show, NBA 2K and much more.

"I have done Game Shakers on Nickelodeon, Shameless on Showtime," said Bailey. "Recently, you can catch me in the movie From Scratch on Netflix and Bel-Air."

While he portrays a street ball champion in the first episode of the second season of Bel-Air (on Peacock), Bailey is a real-life basketball phenomenon. He was a top player in his college and played professional basketball in China, Taiwan and Ecuador. In addition, he was an all-star basketball player ranked in the top 30 nationwide by age 16.

Combining his passion for sports and acting, Bailey has been a stunt double for some of the world's top athletes, including LeBron James for Space Jam 2, Shaquille O'Neal and Dwight Howard.

"I definitely knew I wanted to be an actor as a kid. My family was big movie watchers, and I fell in love with movies at a young age," said Bailey. "I also was performing at a young age, like the third grade. I knew I had a love for this thing."

Bailey has been in short films and commercials, including serving as a body double for NBA player LeBron James to landing a role on the breakout hit show "Shameless" (season 4) on the Showtime Network.

Even with fame and a hectic schedule, Bailey still finds the time to return to Fayetteville, his old stomping grounds, to show love for his family, friends, the youth and fans.

As a youth ambassador and mentor, Bailey recently spoke to the youth at South View in Hope Mills, his old high school.

Jesse Mitchell, the creator the Strait No Chase podcast, says Bailey is a good guy who impacted the city.

"I went to his brunch event, and he's a good dude," said Mitchell. "He went to Hollywood and carved out a nice career for himself as an actor."

Over the years, Bailey has done over 50 commercials for top brands, including Nike, Adidas, Coca-Cola, American Express, Wells Fargo, and more.

After college, he played professional basketball in China, Taiwan, Ecuador, and domestically in the CBA and ABA Leagues.

A military brat born in Germany but mainly raised in Fayetteville, Bailey credits the city as a very influential part of his career.

"I represent Fayetteville to the fullest," said Bailey.

With all his accomplishments, Bailey has so much in store for the future, including an upcoming FX network series premiering in October called The Sterling Affairs.

"It's really exciting," said Bailey. "I got to work really close with Laurence Fishburne and Ed O'Neill; to this day, this will be the largest role of my career."

When asked how he wants to be remembered, Bailey says he desires to be an executive producer, starring and writing someday.

"I am popular in basketball and acting, but I also want people to know about my writing skills," said Bailey. "When I am on my Morgan Freeman vibes, getting older, I really want people to know and recognize my writing ability."

Bailey says he loves writing, being influential with his words and impacting people's lives, which is how he wants to be remembered.
