Farm Aid has unique connection to NC

Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Chris Stapleton and Sheryl Crow will perform at the Farm Aid Festival on Sept. 24 in Raleigh.

The all-day event at Coastal Credit Union Music Park celebrates North Carolina agriculture and farmers' efforts to slow climate change. Food sold at the festival will be grown by farmers using sustainable practices, and hands-on activities and exhibits will teach festival-goers about soil, water, energy, food and farming.

Other performers include Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Allison Russell, Charley Crockett, Brittney Spencer and Particle Kid.

There will also be speakers about climate change and diversity within the industry. Sept. 23 will mark the festival's second year in Raleigh since 2014.

Neil Young, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Margo Price are all board members of Farm Aid, a national organization using performances to raise money for farmers, technology, and environmental efforts.

“I’ve always said that family farmers strengthen us all,” said Willie Nelson, who founded Farm Aid. “Farmers in North Carolina, across the Southeast, and all over the country are growing solutions to our toughest challenges, including climate change. We’re bringing Farm Aid here to highlight their hard work and celebrate the ways we can all join farmers to help.”

Tickets will go on sale online beginning July 30. Prices range from $75 to $315.
