Family remembers NC-based Marine killed in NATO exercise crash

Cpl. Jacob M. Moore, 24, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, was one of four Marines killed while training in Norway last week. Family members said Moore enlisted in the Marines in August of 2018.

Moore attended Boyd County High School and leaves behind a younger sister, his two grandparents, grandparents, a supportive extended family, friends and a loving girlfriend.

His decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.

"[Those] little eyes ... just killed you to see them," said Moore's grandfather Mike Steele. "I just remember him from a baby up until now ... a lot of memories. We did a lot together."

The Associated Press reports that the other Marines killed in the crash were identified as Capt. Matthew J. Tomkiewicz, 27, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Capt. Ross A. Reynolds, 27, of Leominster, Massachusetts, and Gunnery Sgt. James W. Speedy, 30, of Cambridge, Ohio.

The Marines were killed last week when their Osprey aircraft crashed in a Norwegian town in the Arctic Circle during a NATO exercise. The men were assigned Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing stationed on Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina,
