No injuries in drive-by shooting in Durham County

The Durham County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened Monday morning on Dodge Ave.

No one was injured.

Around 4:30 a.m. a car drove past the house, firing dozens of times, striking vehicles and the home itself.

WRAL News spoke with a woman who said she's one of seven people who live in the house that was hit.

She said one of the bullets missed her 78-year-old mother by one inch.

She said 43 gunshots hit the home. Some went through cars in the driveway.

She believes this was a drive-by shooting and does not believe it was random.

"We’re thankful today that no one was injured," said Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead. "This could have had a tragic outcome. My office is doing everything we can to address the increasing gun problem in our community. Together with the participation of our community partners and residents, we can make our community safer."

The investigation is ongoing.
