A Nash County man won $2 million from Saturday night's Powerball drawing.

Robbert Crumel of Middlesex paid for a $3 Power Play ticket at the Murphy Express on Gannon Avenue in Zebulon. He didn't win the jackpot, but did win the $2 million prize for matching five numbers.

"I called my whole family, all my kids," Crumel said. "I won on numbers I picked from birthdays of my kids and grandkids."

The ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls to win $1 million -- and the prize doubled because the person bought the PowerPlay multiplier.

Crumel was one of two people in the country who won $2 million trying to win the jackpot, which was over $960 million on Saturday night.

"I've been playing Powerball ever since it came out," Crumel said. "I kept on playing, never gave up, and my day finally came."

The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 11.6 million.

Crumel arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and took home $1,425,012 after required federal and state tax withholdings. Crumel said he plans to use the money to help his family.

"I needed it and my family needed it too," he said.

Monday night's jackpot is at an estimated $1.04 billion, or $478.2 million in cash, which is the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in 292 million.
