Family: 19-year-old killed in Apex crash on NC 540 was on her way to see friends
Family and friends are mourning Isabelle Cedeno, who was killed in the wee hours of Sunday in deadly crash on N.C. Highway 540 near Apex.
Sometime around midnight, Cedeno lost control of her BMW, ran off the road and hit a minivan.
The parents of Isabelle, Cheryl and Peter Cedeno, spoke with WRAL News Monday night.
For Cheryl, who said her daughter was on her way to dance with friends when the accident happened, it has been difficult to process.
"It's traumatic and shocking," Cheryl said.
Cheryl said Isabelle was taking a gap year after graduating from Fuquay-Varina High School before pursuing her dreams of becoming an esthetician.
"She had used that year to travel," Cheryl said. "To really take care of herself and travel and explore what she wanted to do."
Peter said the all-consuming feeling of grief has him reflecting on how precious his daughter was to him, and others.
"I grieve for any parent that suffers loss of a child," Peter said. "It should never have taken a tragedy like this to realize so many people cared about Isabelle, cared about our family."
Three adults, two 8-month-old girls and a 2-year-old girl were in the minivan. All were taken to WakeMed and treated for their injuries.
Cheryl and Peter said funeral services for Isabelle are planned for Saturday at St. Francis United Methodist Church in Cary.
The crash remains under investigation.
