Family of fallen solider receives keys to new Fuquay-Varina home built by volunteers

Keys to a new home in Fuquay-Varina were presented to the family of a fallen U.S. Army sergeant on Saturday.

It was all part of Operation Coming Home.

"It is beautiful," Ava Bradley, a widow, said of her new home.

Ava Bradley and her children have faced a challenging journey. In 2008, her husband, Staff Sgt. Juantrea Bradley, lost his life while serving in Iraq.

His passing turned Bradley into a widow, leaving their children without their father.

During the ceremony, the Purple Heart recipient was remembered.

Volunteers with Garman Homes built the family a brand new home in Fuquay-Varina.

"We thank God for everybody who had anything to do with it," Ava said. "We appreciate everybody. Everybody."

The donated home is part of Operation Coming Home, a mission to help injured troops and families of fallen service members.

After the singing and ceremony were done, Ava took time to reflect on what the beautiful home meant to her family.

"It shows they appreciate what their dad and my late husband did. We are not alone," Ava said. "They see it, and they love us, too."

She also says it may seem like they are starting over, but they are just continuing the journey in another neighborhood.
