Events this week: State Fair, Chris Stapleton
The N.C. State Fair kicks off this week, plus there are a lot of non-fair related events happening this workweek.
Here are our picks to help get you to the weekend:
Monday
4U - A Symphonic Tribute to Prince (Red Hat Amphitheater, 500 S. McDowell St., Raleigh) - This show was originally scheduled for Sept. 13, but got moved due to Hurricane Florence. A full symphony orchestra will present the music of Prince during this concert.
A Paranormal Evening with Alice Cooper (Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, 2 E. South St., Raleigh) - At 70-years-old, this shock-rock pioneer has shown no signs of of slowing down. See him perform in Raleigh.
Flash Chorus (Motorco Music Hall, 723 Rigsbee Ave., Durham) - If you love singing, then you can join this fun chorus at Motorco. They will be singing Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and Kishi Bashi's "m'lover."
Tuesday
Buku Beer Dinner with Wicked Weed Brewing (Buku, 1228 Heritage Links Drive, Wake Forest) - Enjoy a five-course dinner complete with pairings from Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville. The menu will include lamb tartare, pork belly and hoison glazed duck. Tickets are $65 plus tax and gratuity.
Wednesday
Opening Event for The Beyond: Georgia O'Keeffe and Contemporary Art (North Carolina Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh) - Get a first look at this exhibit. the event will include light hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine, prickly-pear margaritas and an all-vinyl playlist, curated and spun by H. C. McEntire of Merge Records. Tickets are $45 for museum members and $50 for non-members.
Metal Stamping at Durty Bull (206 Broadway St, Durham) - Make earrings, necklaces, bracelets or key chains all with your personal design during this class at the Durty Bull. The cost is $30 per person.
Steven Wright (Carolina Theatre of Durham, 309 West Morgan Street, Durham) - See this Academy Award-winning comedian on stage.
Thursday
N.C. State Fair (N.C. Stair Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh) - The fair kicks off today! The gates open at 3 p.m. and close at 11 p.m. The fair continues until Oct. 21.
Chris Tucker and D.L. Hughley (Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary) - See these two comedians at Booth Amphitheatre.
Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games (DPAC, 123 Vivian St., Durham) - Michael Flatley created this Irish dance show two decades ago and it's still going strong! See this dance show complete with special effects lighting, dancing robots and more.
Friday
N.C. State Fair (N.C. Stair Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh) - The fair opens at 8 a.m. for its first full day. Make sure to stop by the WRAL tent to see your favorite reporters and anchors.
Chris Stapleton's All American Road Show Tour (Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, 3801 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh) - The singer performs along with Marty Stuart and Brent Cobb.
International Night Market (Fullsteam Brewery, 726 Rigsbee Avenue, Durham) - Head to Fullsteam for this local market featuring about a dozen small businesses with a global focus.
Oyster Roast (State Capitol Building,1 E Edenton St, Raleigh) - Enjoy an annual oyster roast at the state capitol starting at 7 p.m. There will also be live music from The Embers, local beer and wine and more. This event is the primary fundraiser for the N.C. State Capitol Foundation, whose mission is to restore, preserve and conserve our state's historic capitol building. Tickets are $75 per person.
