Eastern Wake growth creates need for more EMS services

The population boom underway in Wake County is leading to changes, including expanded EMS services.

Officials say Wake County is growing by 63 people a day, and many people are moving to the eastern part of the county. To accommodate the growth, Eastern Wake EMS is unveiling a new station in Wendell.

The new station on Wendell Boulevard features state-of-the art equipment and technology and replaces an old station. Eastern Wake EMS serves Knightdale, Wendell, Rolesville and Zebulon.

Three of those four cities saw the largest percentage growth in the state last year. According to the 2017 census, from July 2016 to July 2017, Rolesville saw 9.3 percent population growth rate, Wendell saw a 7.8 percent growth rate and Knightdale saw a 7.4 percent growth rate.

People who live in Wendell told WRAL News they've noticed the growth, and they welcome it and what it could bring.

"I think it's awesome -- more growth, more business for the area," said one resident.

"It's a nice town -- it's quiet, family-oriented," another said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. for the new EMS station.
