An East Garner Elementary School instructional assistant is facing child abuse and assault charges.

Tiffany Ebron, 29, of Raleigh, is charged with misdemeanor child abuse, assault on a child younger than 12 years old and assault on an individual with a disability.

Court documents state Ebron “willfully did assault and strike … an individual with a disability by lifting a child by the feet, resulting in the child striking the back of his head on the floor.”

The documents also state Ebron “dragged the child by the feet across the floor.”

The boy was 9 years old, according to the documents.

Also, the documents state the boy complained of head pain and carpet burn on his stomach and arms.

Wake County Public Schools stated Ebron is suspended with pay. She was hired on Sept. 25, 2019, according to the district.

The district said Ebron works as an instructional assistant with special programs.

Authorities arrested Ebron on Tuesday, according to the documents.

On Thursday, WRAL News stopped by an address where investigators say Ebron lives.

No one answered the door after a few knocks and ringing the door bell, but WRAL News heard what sounded like children inside.

WRAL News reached out to Garner police for more details – a captain with the department said, "Due to the nature of the case and the fact that it is an active investigation, we are limited on what we can share right now.”

The 9-year-old boy's mother spoke with WRAL News about the alleged crime.

"We bring our kids because we think they are safe and protected like they are at home," she said. "We don’t expect things like that to happen.”

WRAL News has decided to not identify the mother to protect her son's privacy.

The City-County Bureau of Identification listed Ebron’s employer as East Garner Elementary School.

Ebron is due back in court on Jan. 11, 2024.
