Book Harvest, the amazing local nonprofit that gets books in the hands of kids across the region, is hosting a special event this month that's aimed at making sure kids are reading all summer.

The group will host a stop along Scholastic's Summer Reading Road Trip from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, July 16, at Burton Elementary School, 1500 Mathison St., Durham.

The event includes photo ops with costume characters, including Clifford the Big Red Dog, Geronimo Stilton and Dog Man; crafts; activities; a prize wheel; giveaways and more. They'll also be handing out lots of free books. The summer reading road trip is designed for kids ages 0 to 12.
